“Sleep Tight Don’t Let The Bed Bugs Bite” 5 Tips to help prevent Bed Bugs while Traveling

Bedbugs are quite common these days and are found in several places such as hotels, restaurants, movie theaters, etc. A common myth is bed bugs like a cluttered, dirty environment but bedbugs are hitch hikers and do not care who they catch a ride and live with.

They can be brought in from any public place that you have visited and you don’t want your trip ruined by bringing home bed bugs.

  1. CHECK OUT HOTEL REVIEWS

Before you book your hotel room, check as many reviews a possible to see what others say about the hotel and if bed bugs have been reported.

2. CARRY A FLASHLIGHT IN YOUR LUGGAGE FOR INSPECTIONS

3. KEEP BELONGINGS OFF THE BED, CHAIRS AND FLOORS

I suggest putting your luggage in the bathtub while inspecting the room or leaving it in the car.Keeping your belongings off the floor, bed or chairs reduces the risk of those nasty bugs making their way into your stuff.Using the desk or luggage stand is the best way to store your luggage.

4. CHECK THE BED AND ROOM

Pull back the blankets and check for any stains on the sheets or pillows.Pull off the sheets and check the seams of the mattress for bedbugs, stains (fecal matter), nymphs or exoskeletons.Bedbugs tend to hide in the seams.Check the bedside tables, headboard, and edges of carpet.IF YOU NOTICE ANY SIGNS, LET THE STAFF KNOW IMMEDIATELY.

5. BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU GET HOME

Wash all your clothes in the hottest water possible and dry them even if you haven’t worn them and also inspect your suitcases/bags/purses to ensure you don’t have an unwanted hitchhiker.

Take precautions because bed bugs are no joke. You will almost always need to call in a professional to take care of them and it is no fun spending your hard earned dollars on unwanted visitors.
