Deadliest Animal on Earth! 10 Facts about Mosquitoes

Mosquitoes are the deadliest animals on Earth. There are more deaths associated with mosquitoes than any other animal on the planet. They carry any number of deadly diseases such as yellow fever, malaria, west Nile and of course Zika.

  1. Antibiotics do not work on mosquito-borne diseases because they are viruses and antibiotics don’t fight viruses.

  2. A mosquito can infect a person with West Nile Virus but not all people end up with symptoms so you may never know you have been infected.

  3. The Mosquito can complete its life cycle within as little as 4 days, though most of them complete it within two weeks.

  4. Only female mosquitoes bite humans and animals, the males eat on nectar. Female mosquitoes need protein for their eggs and must have blood in order to reproduce.

  5. All mosquitos require water to breed. Just a few inches of water is all it takes for a female to deposit her eggs. Mosquito larva develop quickly in any bit of standing water such as bird baths, roof gutters, water troughs, and any little thing that can hold water.

  6. A female mosquito can bite its first victim two days after becoming an adult.

  7. Mosquitoes have poor vision and rely on the carbon dioxide you exhale in order to locate you. They can detect carbon dioxide from 75 feet away.

  8. Female mosquitoes can lay up to 300 eggs at one time. (no wonder there are so many of them)

  9. A mosquito’s wings beat 300-600 times per second. This would explain that irritating buzzing sound you hear just before a mosquito lands on you and bites.

Mosquitos are pesky, disease-carrying pests that spend their time sucking the blood out of just about anything that moves. Mosquito bites cause itchy red bumps that make most people miserable and have the potential of carrying deadly diseases.
